Every August, the West Shore trades quiet mornings for wood grain, chrome, and enough classic horsepower to make Obexer’s docks look like a floating museum. The Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance returns for its 52nd year, still one of the only weekends all summer where the dock lineup nearly outshines the lake itself. And Concours isn’t sailing solo this month. Sailors, young racers, and rowers are all setting a course for the water too, so here’s what’s worth watching from the shore, or better yet, from a boat.

Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance

This year’s marque class is Riva, the Italian builder that turned speedboats into rolling art. Expect polished mahogany hulls, live jazz moving between rows of polished mahogany, and the Concours Wine Village pouring for anyone with the separate pass to prove it. Terry’s Tour starts Saturday morning, and the silent auction supports the Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation’s community work.

It’s presented by the Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation and its longtime partner, Tahoe Luxury Properties, and it pulls collectors from well outside Tahoe. Walk the docks, talk to the owners, and it’s easy to see why this show has outlasted just about every other August tradition on the West Shore. The event also supports the Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation’s work around the lake, so admiring the hulls does some good too.

Zest Fest 26

Tahoe Yacht Club’s newest event puts kids straight into the skipper’s seat. Twenty RS Zest dinghies, two-person crews, and a course built to teach real racing skills without the pressure of an actual regatta. Saturday and Sunday both open with an introduction to racing, free sail time, and six short races each afternoon, capped by a Saturday barbecue social back at Lake Forest. If you’ve got a young sailor, or you just want to watch the next generation figure out a jib, this is worth the stop.

Monday Night Dinghy Racing

The club’s ILCA Summer Series has been running Monday nights since May, and three more weeks remain in August. Laser, A Fleet, B Fleet, and RS Zest sailors all take the same warning signal at Lake Forest, and new for this year, an Open Dinghy start lets first-timers try racing for free before deciding whether to enter the full series. It’s real club racing, not a spectacle built for an audience, but the view from shore is still one of the better ways to spend a Monday evening in North Tahoe.

When: Mondays, August 10, 17, and 24, 2026. First warning signal at 6 PM.

26th North Tahoe Regatta

Rowing shells take over for this one. It’s billed as the highest elevation rowing regatta in the country, and racers cross the open water of Agate Bay and Carnelian Bay with the Sierra crest as a backdrop. Three course lengths, from a 7K short course to a 23K half marathon, mean the field ranges from first-timers to serious distance rowers. RowTahoe runs it with support from Tahoe Yacht Club, and it’s genuinely one of the more scenic mornings on the North Shore calendar.

When: Sunday, August 9, 2026.
Cost: Spectating is free along the shoreline. Racers register directly through RowTahoe.

Practical Notes

West Lake Boulevard gets tight on Concours weekend, so build in extra time whether you’re coming down from Tahoe City or up from Tahoma. Lake Forest’s boat ramp lot fills fast on Zest Fest and Monday racing nights too, so arrive early or plan to walk in. All four events above are outdoors and weather-dependent, so check conditions the morning of if the forecast looks unsettled. And if boats aren’t really your thing, the Concours crowd alone, wandering the docks in linen and deck shoes, is a decent show on its own.

What This Weekend Says About West Shore Living

A show like this doesn’t happen by accident. The West Shore has quietly built a culture around the water, private docks, buoy fields, boat garages, marina access, that shapes what people look for the moment they start searching for property here. The same goes for Tahoe City and Lake Forest, where proximity to a boat ramp can matter as much as square footage once you actually live the lake lifestyle. If access to the water is as important to you as the house itself, that’s worth talking through before you start touring.
